Where ChatGPT fits best
Breadth. ChatGPT is a far more capable general model: deep research with sources, long writing, code, data analysis, images, and voice. Scheduled tasks can nudge you by push or email, memory carries context between chats, and connected apps let it read your Gmail and Google Calendar in a normal conversation. On paid plans, agent mode can browse a website and fill in a form for you.
If the job is to think something through, draft something, or find something out, ChatGPT is the better tool and this page will not pretend otherwise.
Where Rio fits best
The record. Rio holds your tasks (filed in Areas), your calendar, your habits, your reminders, and your notes, and shows them on one day. When you say “move the dentist to Thursday” or “remind me every Monday to send the invoice,” the change is made in that record, and it is there when you open the day tomorrow.
Choose Rio when you are tired of copying answers into four other apps.
Where they overlap
Both remember what you tell them. Both can set a reminder that comes back. Both can read a connected Google Calendar. The difference is what surrounds the conversation: ChatGPT sits next to your tools and reaches into them; Rio is the tool, with the conversation on top. A reminder in ChatGPT is a scheduled message. A reminder in Rio sits on the same timeline as the meeting it is about.
Who should choose which
Use ChatGPT for the questions. Use Rio for the day. If you only want one, pick by where your commitments live: if they already live in a task app and a calendar you keep in sync by hand, Rio replaces that work; if they live in your head and you mostly need a sharp thinking partner, ChatGPT is enough.
