Task management

Tell Rio what needs to get done.

Rio captures it, organizes it, and can change it later.

How does Rio manage tasks?

Every task belongs to exactly one Area — Work, Home, a client. If you do not pick one, it lands in Inbox. A Project lives inside one Area; assigning a task to a Project also sets its Area. You look at one Area at a time.

Why filing beats a mega-list

A single list of every open loop is honest for about a day. After that, work and personal items compete for the same scan. Areas restore the split you already use in your head, without a second app.

Bottom line: if your life has more than one lane, the list needs a place, not another tag.

How capture works

Tell Rio the work. It files the task. You see it on that Area’s board.

  • Say it — include the Area or Project if you know it.
  • Rio files it — missing Area becomes Inbox.
  • You see it — open that Area. There is no combined “everything” board.

Who this is for

For people running a job and a side project, or work and a household, who keep losing items because they lived in the wrong list.

Frequently asked questions

Can a task have no Area?

No. A task always has an Area. Omit one and it is filed to Inbox. Other things you can file (notes, events) may be Unfiled — that word is for them, not for tasks.

What is a Project in Rio?

A Project is grouping inside exactly one Area. Putting a task on a Project sets its Area. It is not a folder of documents.

Can I create tasks from a note?

No. Capture is conversational: you ask Rio. Saving a note does not spawn tasks.

Tell Rio what you need to do. It files the task into an Area instead of leaving it in a pile.
